Mobile Cement Ship Unloader | Mersea 5000S

The Aslan Çimento works at Darıca stands directly on the Gulf of İzmit and runs its own Marmara Sea terminal, handling vessels from small coasters up to 50,000 DWT. The berth works around the clock, in three shifts, along a shoreline that is both densely populated and heavily industrial.

The smaller vessels at this terminal are discharged by a Mersea 5000S, Vanguard’s road-mobile mechanical ship unloader, which handles vessels of up to 5,000 DWT at 180 tonnes per hour. Mersea moves cement out of the hold mechanically rather than by air, through an enclosed conveying path, so it does without the large vacuum blower a pneumatic unloader depends on. That keeps the installed power low: the main drive is a single unit, supplied either as a 355 kW electric motor or as a 375 kW diesel engine for berths without a suitable power connection.

Because it is road mobile, the unit is not built into the quay. It can be moved to the wharf where the vessel is and taken off the berth when it is not working. The video on this page was filmed during commissioning at the Aslan terminal
