This road-mobile ship unloader serves Aşkale Çimento, one of Türkiye’s larger independent cement groups, with integrated plants at Erzurum, Gümüşhane and Van, a grinding and packing plant at Erzincan and a further works at Trabzon. A group spread across that much geography does not have one berth to design around, and that is the whole argument for a road-mobile ship unloader. The Ariel supplied to Aşkale discharges vessels of up to 5,000 DWT at 185 tonnes per hour and works at the group’s own port facility at Hopa on the eastern Black Sea. Because it is road mobile, it is not built into the quay. It travels to the berth by road like any semi-trailer, towed by a standard truck, and nothing had to be constructed there to make the discharge possible: no conveyor gallery, no transfer tower, no fixed hopper. The unit arrives, sets up, works the hold through a sealed pneumatic line and leaves. For an operator whose cargo does not always come into the same port, that is the difference between a terminal investment and a machine.
